I am working on a talk I am giving that is upcoming in October. The opening goes like this…
“The realities we immerse ourselves in are often toxic to a greater or lesser degree. And, increasingly over time, the toxicity grows until it hits a tipping point. Everyone’s is different.
It’s like living in a house with lead paint. You don’t see it, but constant exposure to it slowly poisons you over time.”
What is at the core of this toxicity? Why do we stay tethered to it? Why do we not recognize its presence?
Today, we often find ourselves surrounded by circumstances, situations, activities, desires, thoughts, beliefs and people we cling to because it is what and who we know. This clinging often stifles growth, change and even understanding of anything beyond what immediately surrounds us.
Believe it or not, most of use have allowed ourselves to be locked in a room coated in lead paint. Some of us have rooms with more toxic paint, and others have less. But, we all live in some reality with situations, stuff and people who are that lead paint.
There is a doorway out of the rooms we all currently inhabit that is locked, keeping us inside. However we all hold the key. Look at it. It’s right there in front of you. The key is your mindset and perception.
The doorway leading out of these lead filled rooms is disguised as a mirror. This mirror allows for a reflection back to you which reinforces the belief that this is all there is, because you let it. This mirror, like all mirrors, responds to you.
So look deeper. What is beyond that reflection? The reflection is just what is on the surface. There is much more hidden underneath, so look again.
For the keys to work in the door, your mindset and perception must match what is on the other side of the door, not what is reflected in the mirror or what is in the rooms.
Your mindset and perception has to fundamentally shift beyond this before you can even see past the reflection. Using your keys will help you find the mirror’s latch and then to unlock the door residing behind the mirror. You can’t walk through the door if you can’t first find it and unlock it.
These steps time, energy, consistency and commitment, which is why are content to remain in their rooms.
Lastly and most importantly, I believe there is a toll to be paid in order to step through the door once you have unlocked and opened it.
Yes, there is a price. The Universe operates in an equilibrium. Every action has an equal reaction. Nothing is one sided. There is no take without give.
So yes, a toll is required for passage through.
What is the price for passage?
You must commit to change. You must commit to improve; and not just yourself. That is the important thing.
When you step through the door, leaving the rooms of peeling lead paint behind, you have to be willing to foster and amplify continued growth and improvement of everything and everyone you encounter in small ways.
Give elevated energy back to the collective rather than simply taking and returning negative energy.
You can begin by living through four simple tenants:
Remaining authentic to your true self
Offering kindness in any way open to you
Remaining curious in big and small ways
Being generous
Practicing patience in every activity
Here are my questions to you:
Does this concept resonate with you and if so, why?
Are you living this or are you trying?
Think this is crap? Love to know why and where this is off base.
Is this a roadmap or message you feel is worth sharing? Why or why not?
